Why are your mic flags so inexpensive?
We get this question a lot. Perhaps the simplest answer is that we calculated what we believed to be a fair price for the work and service we provide and this is what it came up to. We got into the mic flag business in the early 1980’s because one of the networks asked us to try an experiment. Our pricing reflects the fact that our customers have traditionally been large networks-some of which order thousands of mic flags a year. When we decided to promote our products to the general public, we decided that it was only fair to charge everyone the same price. That reasoning led to prices that are dramatically lower than most of our competition.
What artwork files do you accept?
Because we deal with such a large number of customers purchasing custom products, we have developed the ability to handle virtually any type of artwork file. Much more important to us is the resolution of the graphics. We can print at resolutions up to 1440 dpi and the most important single factor in the quality of the print is the quality of the file you send us. A standard resolution for high quality printing is 300 dpi and that would be a good starting point for your files.
How will my mic flag be printed?
We try to print an order in the way that will produce the best results for that order. We have at our disposal the ability to screen print or digitally print any given order. The vast majority of orders are printed on our HP-Indigo S200 printing press or Mimaki inkjet machines.
Are the graphics protected somehow?
Yes, we laminate the graphics with a polycarbonate in order to protect them and provide some antiglare protection as well.
How long will the mic flags last?
That depends on how you use them. Treated carefully, they should last quite awhile. The frame itself is virtually indestructible. The printing is printed with inks that are intended to be left outside for 5 to 7 years. The only real issue is the extent to which the edges get “nicked up” and start to look a bit ragged. This comes down largely to handling. A simple but telling statement is that although we average two or three new customers a day, we have only had one order returned to us for manufacturing quality in the past year.
